A Place To Begin

Is Your Child Struggling to Adjust?

A move, a divorce, a new school, a loss in the family: big changes can turn a child's world upside down, even when the change is a good one. Kids often cannot explain what they are feeling, so it tends to come out in their behavior, mood, or schoolwork.

At (Re)Connect in Towson, MD, we provide therapy for kids and teens facing life transitions that goes beyond talking. Using skills-based approaches like CBT and DBT, we help young people process what is changing and build the coping tools to feel steady again, and we support parents through it too.

How to Know If a Life Change Is Weighing on Your Child or Teen

Tap anything that feels familiar.

  • Clinginess is a common way kids respond to uncertainty, and it often eases with support.

  • Anger is often a cover for sadness or fear, and kids can learn safer ways to express it.

  • Pulling away can be a way of coping, and gentle reconnection helps.

  • Stress from change often shows up in the body, and calming tools can help.

  • School can take a hit during big transitions, and support often helps kids find their footing.

  • Some kids need time and a safe space before the words come.

Big changes are hard on kids, even when the change is positive or necessary. Therapy gives your child a steady place to process what is happening and build the tools to adjust.

Why Private Pay?

Why We Don't Take Insurance

Insurance companies can dictate how many sessions you're approved for, and sometimes which providers you're allowed to see. Working outside of insurance means it's you and your therapist deciding what your care looks like, for as long as you need it.

Because we're not billing insurance directly, the details of what you're working through in session aren't routinely shared with a third party. If you'd like to submit for reimbursement, we'll only include what's needed for a superbill.

Insurance-based care is often built around short-term, symptom-focused treatment. Working privately gives us the flexibility to go at the pace that's right for you, whether that's a few months or longer-term support.

Being an out-of-network practice lets our therapists spend their time and attention on client care rather than insurance paperwork and pre-authorizations.

Can I still use my insurance?

Yes. We're an out-of-network provider, and you can use your insurance if your plan includes out-of-network coverage (most PPOs do). We'll provide you with a monthly superbill you can send to your insurance company for reimbursement. Many of our clients receive at least 50% back from their insurance companies.
