Therapy For Kids and Teens

Kids and teens need their own approach to therapy. Therapy at these ages focuses on emotional regulation, navigating tricky friendships and family dynamics, and working through life pressures that are unique to these ages.

At (Re)Connect Therapy Center, we believe emotional wellness and connected relationships begin in childhood. We specialize in working with school-aged children and teens navigating anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, school stress, and social difficulties.

Growing up today can feel overwhelming for kids. Whether your child is struggling with worry, big emotions, peer relationships, or the pressures of academic performance, therapy can provide tools and support to help them feel more confident and connected.

We understand that children need different levels of parental support at each developmental stage. Our child therapist provides individual therapy alongside thoughtful parent collaboration and family coaching when appropriate, helping families strengthen communication and foster resilience together.

Therapy Can Help.

How We Work With Kids

Since children often express themselves through action rather than words, we use play therapy, creative activities, games, and interactive tools to help them explore feelings, build confidence, and strengthen emotional regulation skills. Through engaging and age-appropriate techniques, children learn how to manage big emotions, improve behavior, and navigate challenges at school, home, and with peers.

Our therapy for kids can support concerns such as:

  • Anxiety and worries

  • Emotional outbursts or difficulty with regulation

  • Social struggles and friendship challenges

  • Family changes or conflict

  • Low self-esteem

  • Behavioral concerns

We also believe that meaningful change happens within relationships. When appropriate, we include parent and family involvement in therapy to strengthen communication, improve tricky relationship dynamics, and provide practical tools that support your child between sessions.

Our goal is to create a supportive environment where children can process difficult experiences, develop healthy coping skills, and feel more confident navigating their world.

How We Work With Teens

Adolescence can be a time of rapid change, pressure, and identity development. Many teens today are navigating academic stress, social media pressures, changing friendships, family conflict, questions about identity, and increasing expectations about their future. At (Re)Connect Therapy Center, we provide a supportive space where teens can talk openly and develop the skills they need to navigate these challenges.

We commonly work with teens experiencing:

  • School stress and academic pressure

  • Anxiety, depression, or overwhelm

  • Self-esteem and identity concerns

  • Friendship or relationship difficulties

  • Family conflict or communication struggles

  • Risky behaviors or experimenting with substances

  • Impulsivity, anger, or emotional regulation challenges

Our approach focuses on helping teens feel heard, respected, and supported, while also helping them build practical skills for coping, communication, and decision-making.

Balancing Teen Privacy and Family Involvement

For therapy to be effective, teens need a space where they can speak honestly and feel safe being themselves. At the same time, parents play an important role in supporting their teen’s growth.

In our work with adolescents, we balance these needs by:

  • Providing teens with private space in sessions to talk openly

  • Sharing general updates and themes with parents when helpful

  • Scheduling periodic parent or family sessions to address concerns together

  • Helping teens practice communicating their needs to parents in a supportive environment

  • Coaching parents on strategies to better support their teen

This collaborative approach allows teens to develop independence and confidence while ensuring parents remain meaningfully involved in their child’s progress.

Our goal is to help teens strengthen their coping skills, improve relationships, and feel more confident navigating the challenges of adolescence.
