College can create constant pressure—deadlines, performance expectations, social stress, and uncertainty about the future. Therapy helps you understand what’s fueling anxiety, develop practical tools for regulation and time-related overwhelm, and build coping strategies that support both mental health and academic functioning.

Our therapists are trauma-informed and relational, drawing from approaches like Gestalt Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and experiential methods that help you reconnect with your body, emotions, and inner sense of safety.

College is a time of growth, but it can also bring up deeper patterns around attachment, self-worth, and identity. Therapy offers space to explore these layers with curiosity rather than judgment, so you can begin to understand yourself and your needs more fully.

Does therapy help with identity and relationship challenges?

Yes. College often brings big questions about identity, belonging, boundaries, and relationships. Therapy offers space to explore who you are, what you value, and how you want to connect with others. It can also help you navigate conflict, attachment patterns, dating concerns, or feeling disconnected from family or peers.

Therapy helps by addressing both the stressors you face and the skills you need to manage them.

At (Re)Connect, we work with college students who are:

  • Managing anxiety, perfectionism, or academic stress

  • Navigating relationship challenges or identity exploration

  • Recovering from sexual assault or trauma

  • Coping with loneliness, homesickness, or self-doubt

  • Struggling with substance use or recovery

  • Searching for purpose, direction, and belonging

Therapy gives you tools for life, not just for college. You’ll learn how to manage emotions, communicate effectively, and care for your mental health even when life gets busy or uncertain.

College is about learning who you are, not just what you study. Therapy can help you do both.

How Therapy for College Students Works Here

  • Your work with us begins with an intake session where we learn about what’s bringing you to therapy, the pressures you’re facing, and how college life is affecting your mental health, relationships, and sense of self.

  • Together, we explore your history, current stressors, and coping strategies to understand what’s contributing to anxiety, overwhelm, or disconnection. This helps us identify goals and determine the most supportive therapeutic approach.

  • When appropriate, therapy may include processing past trauma, chronic stress, or emotional experiences that continue to affect you in the present. Using trauma-informed, experiential, and attachment-based approaches, we work at a pace that prioritizes safety and emotional regulation.

  • As therapy progresses, we focus on building practical skills for managing academic stress, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and relationship challenges. These tools support regulation, resilience, and confidence both in and outside of school.

  • We help you integrate insights and skills into daily life—strengthening communication, boundaries, and self-awareness. This stage supports healthier relationships with yourself, peers, family, and romantic partners.

Can therapy support recovery from trauma or substance use?

Yes. Many students carry trauma history, ongoing stress, or coping patterns that intensify during college. Trauma-informed therapy can help you build safety, reduce triggers, and strengthen emotional stability. If substances or other behaviors have become a way to cope, therapy can help you understand what’s driving them and develop healthier support and tools.

Modalities That Help You Heal

  • Creative approaches that help you connect with your emotions in real time

  • Repairing relational wounds that often begin in early life and impact current relationships

  • Understanding how past pain influences present struggles

  • Supporting individuals and families impacted by substance use

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can therapy help with homesickness or loneliness?

Yes. Homesickness and loneliness are common during college, especially during transitions or times of stress. Therapy can help you process these feelings, build coping strategies, and develop a stronger sense of connection and belonging.

  • Do you work with college students navigating identity or relationship challenges?

Yes. We support students exploring identity, boundaries, and relationships with friends, partners, or family. Therapy provides space to understand yourself more deeply and build healthier, more authentic connections.

  • How long does therapy usually take for students?

The length of therapy varies depending on your needs and goals. Some students benefit from short-term support around a specific concern, while others find ongoing therapy helpful as they navigate longer-term stress, transitions, or emotional patterns.

  • Do you provide superbills for insurance?

Yes! We are an out-of-network provider and you can absolutely use your insurance if your plan includes out-of-network coverage (most PPOs)! We will provide you with a monthly document (called a “superbill”) that you can send to your insurance company for reimbursement. Many of our clients receive at least 50% back from their insurance companies.
